About The wolves

The Worcester Wolves are a unique and successful professional basketball club. Since starting out in 2000 the now British Basketball League (BBL) based club has worked hard to promote the sport on and off the court in the local community and surrounding areas.

Worcester Wolves basketball club currently play at a 600-seat facility at the University of Worcester, which has an excellent location and good transport links.

We are looking forward to moving into the Worcester Arena, which will be a state of the art 2000 seat arena with first class facilities. The Arena will be opening its doors to both University students and the general public in spring 2012, ahead of the Olympics.  It is due to become the new home of the Worcester Wolves in September 2012.

The club was formed in May 2000 by Roger Clarke and Mick Donovan with its home venue the University College Worcester sports centre.

Following successes on and off the court, the Wolves were promoted to the then Division One for the 2001/02 season.  University College Worcester Basketball Scholarships became available in September 2002 for talented players to study and play at the same time.

The 2003/04 season was the most successful season for the Wolves so far.  We finished runner up in EBL Division 2 and won the Patron's Cup and the Play-Off Final, gaining promotion to Division 1.

In 2005/06 we won the National Trophy Final at the Coventry SkyDome beating City of Sheffield Arrows. Late June 2006 saw the announcement that the Wolves would join the British Basketball League (BBL) the following season.

The basketball experience we offer appeals to a wide audience. As well as fast moving high quality professional sport, the entertainment on game night includes light shows, music, cheerleaders and a lot of crowd participation with "Wolfie" the Wolves mascot leading the way.

Players are selected from home-grown talent and overseas professionals. The BBL season starts in September and finishes in May consisting of between 35 and 40 games, plus cup competitions and end of season play-offs.
