Hoops 4 Health is a BBL incentive with the overall focus of fusing basketball coaching with healthy living advice.

The project provides a dual purpose - to portray a variety of health messages to young people whilst providing a variety of skills and means for young people to continue playing basketball.

The Hoops 4 Health programme has a number of key objectives including:

Increasing the understanding of health and nutrition

Increasing the awareness of the risks of smoking

Promoting exercise and physical activity

Widening participation in sport

Worcester Wolves are currently carrying out this project in 10 primary schools within the community

Read and Play

Read and Play is a home-grown project which again we are running in local primary schools.
This project is aimed at Years 3-4 across the county. The children get a chance to read to the players in small groups or one on one.

This allows all the children the opportunity to read out loud and gain assistance and guidance if required.

The children have a question and answer with the players where they can ask such questions as "What was your favourite book at school?".

There are two areas to Read and Play including: 10 weeks active basketball coaching along with in class reading sessions.
We will be delivering the project in 10 schools this season.

Learning Through Sport

Learning Through Sport is aimed at helping local children in Year 5-6 prepare for their SAT exams in Maths and English.

This is complimented with active basketball coaching carried out by the Worcester Wolves players.

The academic part of the project is carrying out in a classroom with a teacher led session.

The Worcester Wolves & University of Worcester players/coaches support the teacher and work around the class assisting if the children get stuck and answering questions.

Booklets on the two subjects along with a DVD were produced and are distributed out to the participating schools.

This project culminates in the 'Learning Through Sport' day held at the Worcester County Cricket Ground in May.
