Worcester Wolves Academy.
What is the Basketball Academy?
The Academy with the support of Chuck Evansa qualified EBA basketball & FIBA coach and links with the Worcester Wolves National League Basketball Club provides players with the opportunity to experience quality coaching in a superbly equipped environment.
What training is involved?
The four sessions each week focus on practical skills (technical and tactical ability), physical conditioning, lifestyle management and all aspects of coaching.
How does this fit in with my academic programme?
Four hours and forty minutes per week (four lessons) will be dedicated Academy training time. This will fit alongside your academic subjects to form your programme of study. As a large Sixth Form College with several sets in most subjects, we have the advantage of being able to offer you not only a wide range of subjects, but also combinations not available elsewhere.
How will this develop my basketball?
The Academy will not only enable you to enhance your technical ability, but will also provide access to qualifications such as Community Sports Leadership Award and possibly the National Governing Body awards at Level One and Level Two. These qualifications would be advantageous if you decide to apply for positions in the Leisure Industry or Sports Development. Players may have the opportunity to practice with the Worcester Wolves second team that will soon be entering the National League.
This Academy was launched in September 2001 and the first Academy team competed regularly in the English Schools 'A' Championships, the West Midlands Championship, the Worcestershire Schools Knock-out tournament and West Midlands Basics Cup.
In 2002/03, the Academy team reached the last 16 of the English schools Academy Competition, semi- finals of the West Midlands U.19 Colleges Cup and won the Worcestershire School and Colleges cup for the third year running.
